Airplant Magnusiana care guide

Tillandsia, commonly known as air plants, are renowned for their unique appearance and minimal care needs. Follow these simple guidelines to ensure your airplant thrives:

  1. Light: Place your Tillandsia in bright, indirect light for optimal growth. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can cause leaf burn and dry it out very quickly.  Indoors, near a window with filtered light is ideal. Outdoors, choose a spot with partial shade.

  2. Watering: Submerge your Tillandsia in room temperature water for 20-30 minutes once a week. Alternatively, mist your plant 2-3 times a week with one of our pressure misters. After watering, shake off excess water and allow it to dry completely to prevent rot. Adjust watering frequency based on your home’s humidity levels.

  3. Air Circulation: Tillandsias thrive in environments with good air circulation. Ensure proper ventilation around your plant by placing it in an area with adequate airflow. Avoid enclosed spaces with stagnant air.

  4. Fertilizing: Feed your Tillandsia with a water-soluble fertilizer such as Grobest diluted to one-quarter strength once a month during the growing season and then alternate with Multi Booster which is high in Potassium that will assist with flowering. Mist the plant with the diluted fertilizer solution, ensuring thorough coverage.

  5. Grooming: Trim off any dead or dried-up leaves using clean scissors to maintain the health and appearance of your Tillandsia. Remove spent flower spikes to encourage new growth.

  6. Display: Get creative with displaying your Tillandsia! Mount them on driftwood, place them in decorative containers, or hang them in glass terrariums. Just ensure that whatever display method you choose allows for adequate air circulation and drainage.
