Name

Commonly known as: Boston Fern Golden Glow

Botanical name: Nephrolepis Golden Glow

Boston Fern ‘Golden Glow’ is a brighter variation of the classic Boston fern. Its fronds emerge in vivid yellow-green tones, creating a lighter and more vibrant appearance than standard deep green varieties. This colour makes the plant stand out easily, especially when placed in bright indoor spaces.

In a 20cm hanging basket, the plant quickly develops a full cascading shape. The fronds arch outward and gradually spill over the sides of the basket, creating a soft layered look. When healthy, the plant produces dense growth from the centre, which keeps the overall shape balanced and lush.

Like most ferns, Golden Glow performs best with stable care. Regular watering and steady light allow the plant to maintain its colour and fullness. When the environment suits it, new fronds continue emerging from the centre, gradually expanding the plant into a fuller display.

Boston Fern Golden Glow Care Guide

Water logo

Watering – How often should it be watered?

Ferns prefer consistent moisture. Water when the top 2cm of soil begins to dry out. Hanging baskets tend to dry faster than standard pots, so check the soil regularly. Allow excess water to drain freely but avoid letting the plant dry out completely.

Light logo

Light – What light does Boston Fern Golden Glow need?

Bright, indirect light works best. The lighter foliage colour stays stronger in good light, but direct sun can scorch the fronds. A position near a bright window with filtered light is ideal.

Humidity logo

Humidity – Does it need extra humidity?

Yes, Boston ferns enjoy moderate to higher humidity. Dry air can cause browning tips on the fronds. Bathrooms, kitchens or grouping plants together can help create a better environment.

Soil Logo

Soil – What soil works best?

Use a moisture-retentive but well-draining mix. Indoor Potting Soil works well as a base. Improve structure by incorporating Perlite and Bark Chips to keep the mix breathable.

Fertilizing logo

Feeding – How should it be fertilised?

Feed during spring and summer with Grobest Organic Fertiliser every 4–6 weeks. For additional support during active growth, Novatec Soluble Fertiliser can be used occasionally at reduced strength.

Repotting logi

Repotting – When should it be repotted?

Repot every 12–18 months if the basket becomes crowded with roots. Move up one size only. During repotting, incorporate TerraPlus Natura N and Controlled Release Fertiliser into the fresh mix.

Pest image

Pests – What pests should I watch for?

Spider mites can occasionally appear, especially in dry air. Regular inspection and early treatment with an insecticidal spray help prevent issues.

Temerature image

Temperature – What temperature suits it best?

Boston Fern Golden Glow grows well between 16°C and 26°C. Avoid temperatures below 12°C and protect it from cold drafts.
