f you’ve always liked Peace Lilies but wanted something with a stronger presence, Sebastiano is well worth considering.
Growing to around 90cm–1m tall, this variety forms a full clump of broad green foliage with leaves that naturally grow much more upright than the popular Peace Lily Sensation. While Sensation develops large leaves that arch outwards, Sebastiano maintains a tidier, more upright habit, making it an excellent choice where floor area is limited but you still want a large indoor plant.
Like other Peace Lilies, Sebastiano is grown primarily for its foliage, but mature plants also reward you with the familiar white flowers that appear throughout the warmer months when the plant is healthy and actively growing.
Native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, Peace Lilies naturally grow beneath the forest canopy where they receive filtered light, consistent moisture and high humidity. These conditions make them exceptionally well suited to indoor living.
One of the reasons I recommend Peace Lilies so often is because they let you know when they’re thirsty. If they become too dry, the leaves will droop quite dramatically. Fortunately, a thorough watering usually has them standing upright again within a few hours.
Sebastiano responds particularly well to regular feeding. Healthy plants produce larger leaves, richer green colour and more frequent flowers throughout the growing season.

Watering – How often should I water it?
Keep the growing medium evenly moist but never waterlogged. Water thoroughly once the top few centimetres begin to dry. Don’t allow the plant to remain dry for extended periods.
Why has my Peace Lily suddenly flopped over?
Peace Lilies are well known for drooping dramatically when they become too dry. In most cases, a thorough watering is all that’s needed, and the leaves will usually stand upright again within a few hours
Light – Where should I place my XL Peace Lily Sebastiano?
Bright, indirect light is ideal. It also grows well in medium light, although flowering may be reduced. Avoid prolonged direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the leaves.
Humidity – Does it need high humidity?
Sebastiano appreciates moderate to high humidity but adapts very well to normal indoor conditions. Occasional misting or placing it near other plants can be beneficial during very dry weather.
Soil – What growing medium should I use?
I recommend Milled Bark Growing Medium. It provides excellent airflow around the roots while retaining enough moisture for healthy growth. You can also add Perlite if you’d like additional drainage.
Feeding – How should I fertilise it?
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer using Grobest Organic Fertiliser. For stronger foliage and improved flowering, apply Controlled Release Fertiliser when repotting or as a top dressing. During active growth, Novatec Soluble Fertiliser will also encourage larger leaves and more flowers.
Repotting – When should I repot?
Repot every 2–3 years or once the roots begin filling the pot. Refresh with Milled Bark Growing Medium and incorporate TerraPlus Natura N together with Controlled Release Fertiliser.
Pests – What should I look out for?
Spider mites, mealybugs and scale insects may occasionally appear. Wiping the leaves clean and maintaining good airflow will help prevent infestations.
Temperature – What’s the ideal temperature?
Sebastiano grows best between 18°C and 28°C. Protect it from temperatures below 12°C and keep it away from cold drafts.
