Botanical Name: Monstera Deliciosa
Commonly known as : Delicious Monster
The Monstera deliciosa is one of the most recognisable and beloved indoor plants around, thanks to its massive, glossy green leaves with their characteristic splits and holes. Native to Central America’s rainforests, this plant is built for thriving in warm, bright spaces—and will reward you with bold, dramatic growth under the right conditions.
As it matures, the Monstera can grow into a large, upright climber. It’s ideal for statement planters or grown up a moss pole for vertical impact. Despite its size and tropical roots, it’s low maintenance, adaptable, and a reliable grower even in the hands of beginners.
Monstera Deliciosa Care Guide
☀️ Light Requirements:
Bright, indirect light is ideal. It can handle some morning sun, but strong afternoon rays may scorch the leaves. Lower light slows growth and reduces fenestration.
💧 Watering:
Water thoroughly when the top 4–5 cm of soil feels dry. Avoid letting the plant sit in water. In winter, let the soil dry out a little more between waterings.
🌱 Potting Mix:
For optimal drainage and healthy roots, you can use our premixed Aroid Mix, or create your own using Barks Unlimited Potting Soil blended with Perlite.
🪴 Repotting:
Repot every 1–2 years or when roots are circling the pot. Use a sturdy container to support its size and stake with a moss pole for upward growth. Add Bark Chips to improve aeration.
🌿 Feeding:
Feed monthly in spring and summer with a controlled release fertiliser or organic fertiliser to support healthy leaf development.
🐛 Pests & Problems:
Generally hardy, but keep an eye out for scale, mealybugs or spider mites. Wipe leaves regularly and treat with insecticidal spray if needed.
🌡️ General Care Tips:
Prefers temperatures between 18–28°C and enjoys moderate humidity. Mist occasionally or group with other plants to increase humidity. Rotate the plant every few weeks for even growth and leaf development.
