Name

Commonly known as: Tradescantia Nanouk, Wandering Dude, Inch Plant

Botanical name: Tradescantia ‘Nanouk’

Tradescantia Nanouk is grown for its pastel colouring and relaxed trailing habit. The leaves show a mix of soft green, pink, and purple tones, with a slightly fuzzy texture that gives the plant a gentle, matte finish. In good light, the colours remain strong and evenly distributed along the stems.

This plant grows quickly into a dense, spilling form, making it well suited to shelves, hanging baskets, or containers where the stems can trail naturally. In a 15cm pot, Tradescantia Nanouk already shows a full shape and responds well to regular trimming, which helps keep growth compact and encourages branching.

One of the biggest advantages of Tradescantia Nanouk is how easily it propagates. Cuttings root readily when placed straight into moist soil, without the need for water propagation. This makes it simple to refresh older plants, fill out pots, or share cuttings with minimal effort.

Tradescantia Nanouk Care Guide

Water logo

Watering – How often should I water a Northern Maidenhair Fern?

Keep the soil consistently moist, never dry or waterlogged. Check every few days — if the top feels slightly dry, water thoroughly until it runs through the base. These ferns love humidity, so a quick mist between waterings helps prevent crispy tips.

Light logo

Light – What light does Tradescantia Nanouk need?

Bright, indirect light works best. Good light helps maintain strong colour and compact growth. Lower light can cause stems to stretch and colours to fade, while harsh direct sun may scorch leaves.

Humidity logo

Humidity – Does it need extra humidity?

Normal indoor humidity is sufficient. Tradescantia Nanouk adapts well to typical home conditions without additional humidity support.

Soil Logo

Use a well-draining indoor mix that does not stay wet for long periods. Indoor Potting Soil works well as a base. Add Perlite to improve drainage and include Bark Chips lightly to keep the mix open and airy.

Fertilizing logo

Feeding – How should it be fertilised?

Feed during spring and summer with Grobest Organic Fertiliser every 4–6 weeks. If faster growth is desired, Novatec Soluble Fertiliser can be used occasionally at a reduced strength.

Repotting logi

Repotting – When should it be repotted?

Repot when the plant becomes rootbound or when growth slows, usually every 12–18 months. At repotting time, incorporate TerraPlus Natura N and Controlled Release Fertiliser into the fresh mix.

Pest image

Pests – What pests should I watch for?

Check stems and leaf undersides for aphids and spider mites. Early treatment with an insecticidal spray helps prevent issues from spreading.

Temerature image

Temperature – What temperature suits it best?

Tradescantia Nanouk grows best between 18°C and 26°C. Avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 10°C, which can damage foliage.
