Name

Commonly known as: Philodendron Mayoi
Botanical name: Philodendron Pedatum Mayoi

The Philodendron Mayoi is an unusual and striking aroid with leaves that look like they’ve been carefully cut into deep, finger-like lobes. Each leaf spreads out like a tropical fan, and as the plant matures, its growth habit becomes bushy, bold, and undeniably attractive. These 19cm plants are already showing off their big leaves with well-defined cuts, making them ideal statement plants for your home or office.

Philodendron Mayoi Care Guide

🌞 Light Requirements
Mayoi thrives in bright, indirect light. It will tolerate medium light but avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the delicate lobes. If the leaves lose definition or start stretching, it’s usually a sign it wants a bit more light.

💧 Watering
Keep the soil lightly moist, allowing the top 3–4cm to dry out between waterings. It doesn’t enjoy being soggy, so make sure your pot has drainage holes. Overwatering can cause yellowing leaves, while underwatering leads to crispy tips.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
This philodendron loves warmth between 18–28°C and enjoys higher humidity levels. In drier South African homes, a humidifier or regular misting can help keep the leaves lush.

🪴 Soil & Repotting
For optimal drainage and healthy roots, you can use our premixed Aroid Mix, or create your own using Barks Unlimited Potting Soil combined with Perlite. Repot every 1–2 years, ideally in a slightly wider pot — avoid deep round pots, as Mayoi prefers space to spread. Add Bark Chips for structure.

🌱 Feeding
Feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced fertiliser. Alternate between Controlled Release Fertiliser and Organic Fertiliser to encourage strong roots and rich foliage.

🐛 Pests
Keep an eye out for aphids, spider mites, and mealybugs. Wipe leaves regularly and use an insecticidal spray if pests appear.
