Name

Commonly known as: Rabbit and Button Fern Combo

Botanical names: Davallia fejeensis & Pellaea rotundifolia

These two ferns couldn’t be more different in looks, but together they make the perfect indoor combo. The Rabbit’s Foot Fern is known for its soft, arching fronds and fuzzy rhizomes that creep over the pot like little ‘rabbit feet’, while the Button Fern brings a compact, neat shape with its round, button-like leaves. Both are well-suited to life indoors and enjoy similar care, which makes them easy to grow side by side.

They’re especially happy in lower-light conditions, so if you’ve got a dim hallway, office, or corner that needs a little green lift, this pair is for you. Add to that their air-purifying benefits, and you’ve got a stylish, low-maintenance win.

Rabbit and Button Fern Combo Care Guide

☀️ Light Requirements:
Bright, indirect light is ideal. These ferns can tolerate medium to lower light but avoid direct sun, which may scorch the foliage.

💧 Watering:
Keep the soil evenly moist, but not soggy. Allow the top 2–3cm to dry before watering again. Avoid letting the pot sit in standing water.

🌱 Soil & Repotting:
For optimal drainage and healthy roots, you can use our premixed Aroid Mix, or you can create your own potting mix using Barks Unlimited Potting Soil combined with Perlite. When repotting, top with a layer of Bark Chips to help retain moisture and keep the surface tidy.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity:
Both ferns enjoy warm temps between 18–26°C and love humidity. Mist regularly or place near a humidifier—especially in drier seasons.

🌿 Feeding:
Feed monthly in spring and summer using a Controlled Release Fertiliser and supplement with an organic fertiliser to keep the leaves lush and green.

🐛 Pests & Problems:
Ferns can occasionally attract scale or mealybugs. Treat with insecticidal spray and wipe down the fronds gently. Always check the rhizomes of the Rabbit’s Foot for hidden pests.
