Commonly known as: XL Philodendron Brasil
Botanical name: Philodendron Scandens Mica
XL Philodendron Brasil at this size delivers both height and density. Multiple plants are grown together and trained upward, creating a full column of foliage rather than a single trailing vine. This gives the plant immediate structure and a much more established look.
The leaves carry the signature Brasil pattern — deep green with streaks of lime running through the centre. At scale, this contrast becomes more noticeable, adding colour without overwhelming the space. The slightly glossy surface reflects light, which helps keep the plant looking fresh and vibrant.
At around 1.2m tall in a 30cm pot, it works well as a floor plant. The vertical growth keeps the footprint compact while still filling space effectively. It fits easily into corners, alongside furniture, or as part of a layered plant setup.
Because of the way it is grown, the plant holds its shape well. The foliage remains dense along the support, and new growth continues to climb and fill in. Over time, this creates an even fuller appearance.
This is a practical option if you want a large, lush plant that still remains manageable. It brings both colour and structure without requiring complex care.
XL Philodendron Brasil Care Guide
Watering – How often should it be watered?
Water when the top 3–5cm of soil begins to dry out. Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Ensure excess water drains fully.
Light – What light does XL Philodendron Brasil need?
Bright, indirect light works best. It adapts well to medium and lower light conditions, but brighter light helps maintain stronger variegation and fuller growth. Avoid harsh direct sun.
Humidity – Does it need extra humidity?
Average indoor humidity is suitable. Moderate humidity supports stronger growth and helps the plant climb more effectively.
Soil – What soil works best?
Use a well-draining, breathable mix. Aroid Mix works particularly well. Alternatively, use Indoor Potting Soil combined with Perlite and Bark Chips.
Feeding – How should it be fertilised?
Feed during the growing season with Grobest Organic Fertiliser every 4–6 weeks. For stronger growth, Novatec Soluble Fertiliser can be used.
Repotting – When should it be repotted?
Repot every 12–18 months or when the plant becomes root-bound. Move up one size only. When repotting, incorporate TerraPlus Natura N and Controlled Release Fertiliser into fresh mix.
Pests – What pests should I watch for?
Watch for aphids and spider mites, especially on new growth. Treat early if needed.
Temperature – What temperature suits it best?
Philodendron Brasil grows well between 18°C and 28°C. Avoid temperatures below 12°C and protect from cold drafts.
FAQ’s

Multiple plants are grown together and trained upward, creating a dense, layered structure.
Does it trail or climb?
It is trained to climb, but can be allowed to trail if preferred.
